I had my Etta James station playing this weekend, and couldn't help but do a look inspired by such a phenomenal woman. I am sans blonde hair, but I can cope with that.

ButterLondon SS 2012
The butter LONDON SS12 collection has been released, and it is an intense rollercoaster of hues. Says Nonie Creme, Creative Director for the brand:
“What a season! Pops of neon colour everywhere, tempered by sherbet pastels and cool neutrals. It left us plenty to play with in the nail realm. I’ve mixed a couple of softer opaque shades in cantaloupe and pale pistachio, and followed up with an intense retro turquoise and slightly glittery hot pink. Finally, a quietly marvelous sheer oyster that packs a tiny punch with micro glitter particles for those seeking a new way to wear neutral. The message this season is KNOW who you are, then BE who you are! It’s all about the Individual this season, and the beauty world is yours to rule.”
The five colors run the gamut from demure to dazzling. “Bossy Boots”, “Disco Biscuit”, “Knackered”, “Trout Pout” and “Slapper” are the characters this season.
“Bossy Boots” is my favorite shade of the collection. I think it is a perfect blend of green, yellow, and cream to stand out against brown skin. “Slapper” reminds me a lot of “Turquoise & Caicos” from Essies Resort 2010 collection; I’m not completely sold on it being a great fit for the rest of this season from butter LONDON.

Battle of the Beauty Boxes
In late 2010, something epic happened. Birchbox launched in the US what would be the next huge wave in beauty - subscription based beauty programs that let mavens try their hands at samples of their favorites and newest developments from cosmetic brands.
What I’m sure Birchbox didn’t realize was it would be the catalyst for an onslaught of beauty boxes nationwide. In the US, we now have:
Birchbox: [$10 USD/month] which has earned itself a reputation of randomness like chocolate with pop rocks and cayenne pepper (definitely not a favorite!), hair elastics, and samples so small barely one use could squeeze out of them.
Eco Emi: [$15 USD/month] the box for all you eco-conscious babes. What’s really great about Eco Emi are the coupons for every product that are provided with the box if you choose to purchase full size. I personally don’t subscribe to Eco Emi, but from what I’ve seen, they also send food occasionally
which is totally not cool, man

MyGlam (my fave thus far!): [$10 USD/month] In somewhat of a recant to Birchbox’s never-ending bag of fun, Michelle Phan and her amazing beauty vlogger gals joined together to give us a cosmetic bag every month (say what!) full of their favorite products that they actually use. The first bag in December was such a huge hit - Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer, NYX matte lip cream, Urban Decay Eyeshadow, Tarte Mascara, and Mai Couture Blotting Papers? Yes, please. MyGlam is sold out until March, so keep your eyes glued to your screens to see when the subscriptions open up again!
Julep Maven: [$19.99 USD/month] Some of us like to paint our nails. A lot. The women of Julep know and understand that, and have created polishes and treatments to satiate. Take a beauty style quiz and have Julep Maven direct you to the box that best suits you. Don’t agree? You can peruse all available boxes and pick what you think is all you.
Curlbox: [$20 USD/month] Calling all natural divas!! Set to launch this month, Curlbox is the beauty box for all the curly girls. They will ship the 7th of every month and promise to include the best tools, products and discounts.
(note: US has gotten the short end of the stick. Overseas there an abundance of beauty boxes from Feelingunique.com Beauty Box, Glossybox, and Jolieboxto LooseButton, Carmine, and Amarya).
Which beauty box is your top contender? Submit a comment, a video, or a link!

Beauty Must Have: Nicka K Eye Light Crayon
Serious love affair with my new @NickaKNY Eye Light Crayon in “Gold”. I picked this up at my favorite beauty supplier in Harlem last week.
I’ve said goodbye to messy, glitter tear duct eyeshadow fiascoes and hello to quick and easy dabs! This crayon is super resilient - I’ve gone to three holiday parties so far and had to scrub this off of my face at the end of the night.
A steal at $2.49, I promise! This crayon comes in 14 shades, which to try next?
No More Shine on New Year's w/ Skindinavia
First off, Happy New Year dears! In the anticipation of an amazing
and ridiculous
New Year’s Eve, I decided to set my makeup with Skindinavia’s No More Shine spray. I have an obnoxiously oily t-zone and was afraid my party hopping would result in a mess. Luckily it didn’t, and I received tons of compliments!

A few ladies asked what lipstick I am wearing; it’s Shiseido Perfect Rouge RD 514 (Dragon).
